Back-to-School Essentials for Softball Families

Back-To-School Essentials for Softball Families

Back-to-school season means more than new backpacks and school supplies for softball families. This season also means the beginning of juggling practices, games, homework, and busy weeknight schedules. But a little preparation before the chaos can make the entire season run more smoothly.

Here's our checklist of essentials every softball family should have before the first pitch of the season.

First, check all your equipment before the season starts.

Ask yourself a few questions regarding your current equipment:

  • Does the bat still fit your child’s height and strength?
  • Is the glove broken in and in good condition?
  • Do cleats still fit comfortably?
  • Is the batting helmet the correct size?
  • Are batting gloves worn out?

Taking time to replace equipment now helps relieve stress of replacing these major items during the season.

Then, make sure you grab all the practice and training essentials.

This could include...

  • Training balls
  • Batting tees
  • Pitching aids
  • Resistance bands
  • Agility ladders
  • Ball buckets

These items will help with practice and additional training needed at home.

Make sure to replace the little things.

Smaller items such as grip tape, batting gloves, helmet accessories, sliding shorts, extra softballs, and equipment cleaners can help with equipment upgrades at any point during the season.

Finally, pack a ready-to-go bag.

Keeping a softball bag fully stocked and ready helps save time during busy schedules.

Some other things to include:

  • Water bottle
  • Extra socks
  • Hair ties
  • Sunscreen
  • Athletic tape
  • Small first aid kit
  • Bat handle protectors

Don’t forget about recovery items!

Long school days followed by practice can be exhausting.

Some basic recovery essentials we recommend:

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Protein snacks
  • Foam roller
  • Ice packs
  • Electrolyte drinks

Back to school also means tackling homework, practice, games, tournaments, and family or social events. Here are some organization tips to keep in mind when starting this busy season:

  • Keep uniforms washed and ready (We would suggest buying extra pairs of uniform pants and socks just in case).
  • Pack the gear bag the night before.
  • Use a family calendar for practice and games.
  • Keep healthy snacks and drinks ready to grab.

A little preparation now means less stress later. Whether your player is stepping onto the field for the first time or gearing up for another season, having the right equipment and all the other items you need helps everyone focus on what matters most: enjoying the game.
